Engineering Drawing part-6
Lines, Lettering And Dimensioning
Lines-
There are so many lines are used in Engineering drawing ,which are given below.
1- Outlines
2- Margin lines
3- Dimension lines
4- Extension or Projection lines
5- Construction lines
6- Hatching or section lines
7- Leader or pointer lines
8- Border lines
9- Short Break lines
10-Long Break lines
11-Hidden or dotted lines
12-Center lines
1- Outlines-
Lines which represents the outline or border of the object that is called outlines
It is also called principal lines.
It is continuous thick or wide lines
2- Margin lines
Margin lines are continuously thick line.
These lines are also wide lines.
3- Dimension lines-
Dimension lines are continuous thin lines.
These lines have arrowheads which touching the outlines.
4- Extension or Projection lines
Extension or Projection lines are also continuous thin lines
These lines are extended about 3mm beyond the dimension lines
5- Construction lines
Construction lines are used for constructing for figures.
Construction lines are used for geometrical drawing
It is continuous thin light lines.
6- Hatching or section lines
These lines are generally at an angle of 45 degree to the main outline of the section
7- Leader or pointer lines
Leader or pointer lines are drawn to connect a note with the feature to which it applies
8- Border lines
Border lines are lines which are perfectly rectangular lines
These lines are drawn for making a border of the drawing.
9- Short Break lines
Short Break lines are lines that are continuous , thin and wavy
These lines are drawn free hand and make a short break or irregular break
10-Long Break lines
Long Break lines have zig zags and have long break
11-Hidden or dotted lines
12-Center lines
Center lines are used to represent the center of cylindrical , spherical circular objects.
NOTE - There are different types of lines used in engineering drawing:
- A type – Continuous Thick
- B type – Continuous THIN
- C type – Continuous THIN Freehand
- D type – Continuous THIN Zig-Zags
- E type – Dashes THICK
- F type – Dashes THIN
- G type – Chain Thin
- H type – Chain THIN and THICK
- J type – Chain THICK
- K type – Chain THIN Double Dash
